Our logistics business is focused on solving the essential problem of spatial transformation of goods from regions where they are produced (supply regions) to the places where they are consumed. Trade is most beneficial when pursuing production in locations where resources are plentiful and related capacity is either existant or economical to investment, however those locations are almost always located away from the locations, where those who desire to consume them reside. Therefore, transportation, the transformation in space of goods, is necessary to carry goods from where they are most efficiently produced to where they are consumed – reliably and responsibly.

This process of making spatial transformations may at certain times be constrained by technology and available infrastructure. For instance, transportation technology and resources—ocean freight, rail, barge, truck, pipelines—determine the set of possible spatial transformations that can be made. Similarly, storage capacity determines the feasible inter-temporal transformations. These constraints vary in severity over time, need to be identified and ways have to be found to circumvent them. This can be achieved by finding alternative ways to arrange transportation, and/or investing in additional infrastructure that alleviates the constraints.
